Honorable Mention Meeting in Rio Charles Levenstein I. People are simple enough, just a touch of recognition, a kiss on the forehead, a medal with bars for service, an Olympic medal for the strivers. II. Sometimes we bathe in words, washing away old pains and neglect. Over dinner we talk of secrets as though our lives, struggles and peccadilloes make history. We exchange signs and symbols of friendship, words to fill the empty spaces, nods to soothe, winks and blinks to signal peace. We swim in the bay of words with no life jackets, no flippers, bare feet. III. Words and words, falling like warm rain on hungry ears, dripping off my glasses, thick as tapioca on the floor, words are clustering into phrases. Stop this before meaning overtakes us and the music is lost. Only friends.
